How to generate print and preview URLs through Dropbox

To place an order through Order Desk, you need print and preview URLs. In this article we explain exactly how to generate these URLs using your Dropbox account.

When sending order from Order Desk to Printsome, we require you send us public URLs where we can access both the artworks (print_url) for your designs and the mock-up image where is shown the dimensions and placement for your products (print_preview).

You need to upload these images into a cloud-hosted service, like Dropbox, and generate the URLs that we need to access.

First steps

The first step is to, of course, head over to https://www.dropbox.com/. If you already own an account, log in using your username and password. If you do not have an account yet, make sure to sign up and after that proceed to log in with your username and password.

Logging in or signing up at Dropbox
Going to your ‘Files’ page

After logging in you will end up on your Dropbox dashboard. From here, click ‘Files’ in the tab on the left of your screen.

Creating a new folder

You have now been redirected to the ‘My files’ page. Once you are in here, click ‘New folder’ in the tab on the right of your screen.

Naming your folder

You will now get a pop-up that says ‘Create new folder’. Make sure to name your folder, this can be whatever you want it to be. You can leave the access on ‘Only you’. After successfully completing these steps, scroll down and click ‘Create’.

Uploading files into your new folder

After creating a new folder, you will now be able to upload files inside of this folder. Click ‘Upload files’ in the tab on the right of your screen. From here select the print and preview URLs that you need for your order. If you wish to print on one side (so either Front or Back), you will have to add 1 print URL (for the design/artwork in high resolution) and 1 preview URL (a mock-up of the garment with the design on it, how you want your product to look).

If you wish to print on both sides of the garment, you will have to add 2 print URLs and 1 preview URL (if your image contains both front and back mock-ups of the product) or 2 preview URLs (if you have two separate images for front and back mockups of the product).

Uploading files into your new folder
Start generating URLs

When you are done adding all the necessary files into your folder, you can start generating the URLs. This is how it works:

First step in generating URLs
  • When you hover over one of the files, you will be able to click ‘Share’
Hover over the file and the ‘Share’ button should appear
  • After clicking ‘Share’, you will now be able to click ‘Create link’ in the bottom left. Dropbox will now create a custom URL for the file you just uploaded.

  • After creating said URL, you will now be able to copy this URL. To do this, click ‘Copy link’. Your URL will now be copied to your clipboard.

*IMPORTANT*

After copying the custom URL, make sure you paste it directly in the variations tab in Order Desk. Do not paste it in your browser first, because Dropbox will dynamically change the link. Also, do not first copy all of the links to your clipboard and then paste them in Order Desk. You will have to go 1 by 1, otherwise the copies will overwrite each other.
